The ringtail is an almost exclusively nocturnal mesocarnivore. A member of the family Procyonidae, ringtails share their striped tails with their relatives, raccoons and coatis.
Ringtails are skilled climbers and have hind feet that can rotate 180 degrees to assist in descent.
They only weigh ~2 pounds. Their tail is about the same length as their body!
Although they are known to be mainly carnivorous, they also consume plant matter and will eat fruit and nectar. In fact, we bait traps with cat food, strawberry jelly, and raisins!
They have a variety of vocalizations. When frightened, they can let out a very loud bark!
